# Import

Bring your notes over from Apple Notes or Bear: File ▸ Import, or the two rows on the start screen under the apps' own icons. Every note arrives as a markdown file, pictures and files included. Nothing leaves your Mac.

## How it goes

1. Choose From Apple Notes… or From Bear…. A panel opens on that app's folder; press Select this folder so Wander may read your notes.
2. Choose what comes across. Apple Notes lists its notes by folders, tags or smart folders, Bear by its tags, and you can pick whole groups or single notes. Everything starts selected; untick what you want to leave behind, then Import.
3. Choose where the notes go: a folder inside the vault you have open, or a new folder anywhere, which opens as a vault of its own.

A sheet shows each note as it lands. Cancel stops after the note in progress, and what was already written stays. If some notes could not be read, one alert at the end names them.

## What you get

- Apple Notes keeps its folder tree: a note in Work ▸ Clients lands in `Work/Clients/`.
- Bear gets a folder per note's first tag, and `_untagged` for notes with none.
- Pictures and files land once in the vault's `attachments/` folder, named by their content, so the same picture in three notes is one file. Importing again adds no second copy.
- Notes in the trash stay behind.

## Good to know

- An import is a copy, made once. It does not keep the two apps in step afterwards.
- Import is on the Mac only; the two apps' libraries live there.
