# Welcome to Wander

Wander is a markdown editor that respects your files. Your notes are plain markdown in folders you control, no account needed, nothing locked in. What you type is what lands on disk, byte for byte.

This folder you're reading is a real Wander vault, rendered by the same editor your notes get. It is Wander's manual, so its pages are read-only: when you're ready to write, open a folder of your own and everything here works the same, plus the keyboard.

## Your files stay yours

Everything here is a normal folder of `.md` files. Point Wander at your own folder, a notes directory, an Obsidian vault, a docs repo, and edit it the same way. Your git diffs stay clean.

Wander has an optional cloud, and optional means off until you sign in and switch it on for a vault. Until then nothing leaves this Mac. See [[Wander Cloud]].
